February 28, 2016: The mysterious weather doesn't just have us confused. The daffodils have started inching up through the soil. And there are robins flying around the back yard. According to our blog, such signs didn't happen until May last year.

Today, we enjoyed 57 degrees with a sunny, blue sky. We opened windows, took a walk around the property and had our afternoon coffee on the portico swing. We empathize with all of you who are not having such a mild winter but remember, we had our turn last year.

Of course, we've been told not to unclench quite yet. A blizzard in March is not unheard of. And then there's that line from Shakespeare: "Beware the Ides of March!" Okay Willy, you may not have been talking about the weather but we'll heed the least for another couple weeks.

February 20, 2016: Today is the annual local "Winterfest" event and it takes place a few hundred yards from our front door!

But here's the current temperature outside that door --

Not exactly wintry. The cardboard downhill slide competition will probably be disappointing but there is a cider donut eating contest that might make up for the lack of snow. (btw, what the heck is a cider donut?) And then there's the fireworks at the end of the day. We'll probably just pour a glass of wine and watch the display from our portico swing like we would if it was the 4th of July.

Winter did pay us a brief visit last week though. One morning we really did wake to ice and snow and a below zero temp, which is what we experienced almost every day from January thru March last year.

So far this winter, we've barely seen a total of 3 inches of snow! We just want Mother Nature to know we're committed to staying in western Mass for a while but we wouldn't mind a few more winters like this one.

Meanwhile, despite the exciting daily mystery of what the weather will be like, Sweetie is experiencing some serious mid-winter ennui...
